Education background:
   With the deepening of new curriculum reform, teacher's teaching way and students’ learning style must be changed. With the reform of English college entrance examination, how to build an efficient class and how to conduct English teaching are the questions we English teachers must think about.
   I think English will certainly return to be instrumental and human. By learning English as a tool, we can develop the ability of listening, speaking, reading and writing, thus being able to communicate with others in English. In terms of humanity, learning English can broaden our horizons, enrich life experiences, raise cross-culture awareness, form good characters and correct life values.
2Analysis of the teaching material: 
 The center topic of this unit is “cloning". Language skills and language knowledge mainly focus on "cloning”, the central topic. It aims to make Ss develop the ability to express their ideas about this topic, and give reasons why they are for it or against it. Let them see something from different angles and use technologies in a wise way.
3Analysis of the students
As for the students, they learned something of cloning before, but they don’t know much about it. What’s worse, they have small vocabulary. I mainly focus on improving their language skills and encouraging them to learn English happily.
4Teaching targets:
1. Knowledge aims:  At the end of the class, Ss are able to learn something about cloning
                                and learn how to express opinions.
2. Ability aims:     Ss are able to improve reading and speaking skills;
                           They can express their attitudes towards cloning and describe advantages and disadvantages of it.
3. Emotion aims:  Ss are able to see things from different angles and use technologies in a wise way;
                            Inspire Ss’ interest in scientific technology.
5Teaching key points:
1. Ss know something about cloning.
2. Ss’ get their reading and speaking skills improved.
6Teaching difficult points:
1. How to improve Ss’ different reading skills
2. How to encourage Ss to speak and arouse their interest in this topic and even other  
  new technologies.

8Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Leading in
Tell students something about G20 Hang Zhou Summit.
Design purpose:
Lead in the topic and raise their awareness of being concerned about state affairs.
Step 2: Reading
 1 Summarize the main idea
Show them some colored cards on which there is a paragraph number. Each group choose one card at random and then discuss with their partners to summarize its main idea.
Design purpose: Ss can develop their ability of getting the main idea and raise their awareness of cooperative learning.
2 Find details
Read the passage paragraph by paragraph.

The meaning of cloning
(1) It is a way of making an exact _______ of another _______ or ________.
(2) It can be divided into _____ cloning and __________ cloning.
Design purpose: Show some pictures to let them have a better understanding and lead in Dolly.
 
After they see Dolly’s photo, ask them:
Do you know how Dolly was cloned by humans?  
Then play a video to let them have a better understanding about the process of cloning Dolly.

Dolly’s problems
Read this paragraph in two minutes;
Discuss with partners and ask one or more questions;
Do an Ask & Answer activity---take turns to ask and answer the question according to the content of this paragraph.
Design purpose: They can stimulate their mind and become autonomous learners.
Para 3
Different attitudes towards cloning humans
Fill in the blanks.
Some are _________ human cloning, but others are ________ it.
Step 3: Discussion and Debate
Should humans be cloned? Why?
Divide students into two sides, Side A and Side B. One side talk about advantages, while the other one talk about disadvantages.
Then give them three minutes to have a discussion.
Then have a debate.
Finally, make a summary.
Design purpose: Students can output what they have learned about cloning. And learn to use technologies in a wise way.
Step 4 Revision
Guide students to recall what they have just learned.
It is an action of Copy;
The cloned animals such as Dolly had a shorter Life;
Some people are Optimistic about it;
Others are Negative about it;
Cloning humans will raise some Ethic problems.
Put all the initial letter of the five words together, they can get the topic today---“CLONE”.
Step 5 Assignments
 Think about the advantages and disadvantages of another technology and then write a short passage.
Design purpose: In language learning, it’s most important for learners to be able to use the language they learn. I ask them to write a short passage just to check how much they have mastered. The second task is to improve their sense of discovery.

1. Students must finish each task in limited time. This will improve their efficiency of finishing tasks and lead to their active performance.
