本节取自于新课标2003选修10 Unit5 Enjoying Novels中的语言学习部分(learning about language)。该部分由词汇和语法两部分组成，本节课是语法部分，带学生复习独立主格结构（The nominative absolute construction）。这是高中语法中的一个难点，若能掌握，对学生的写作水平提升大有裨益。尤其是在浙江省高考写作中的读后续写当中，经常会涉及细节描写、环境渲染等，而独立主格的运用，常常可以起到使描写更为生动形象、使人物形象更丰满等作用。但学生在运用这一结构时较易出错。因此，通过本节课的学习，要达到帮助学生厘清独立主格的结构、明确其可充当的成分和特点,并教会学生正确运用独立主格结构,来提升自己的写作水平。 学情分析
本班学生虽英语基础不是非常好,但学习态度认真,有学习热情。学生在写作方面较为薄弱。写句子时多为简单句，在尝试运用高级或较复杂语法结构时易出错，在写作中欠缺亮点结构。 教学目标
在本课学习结束时，学生能够：
1. 了解独立主格的结构构成，并理解各个结构之间的含义区别： n./pron.+to do/doing/done/adj./adv./prep. phrase；
2. 学习和掌握独立主格可以充当的成分（含with的独立主格）； 3. 能用独立主格补充句子信息，使描写更具画面感；
4. 能正确运用独立主格进行细节描写、刻画人物、渲染环境等，从而提升写作水平。 教学重点
1. 通过本课的学习，学生能够掌握独立主格的结构及了解其在句子中充当的成分。
2. 达到运用独立主格提升写作水平的目的。 教学难点
在运用独立主格造句时，可以根据句意，正确选择相应的结构。 教学过程

Step 2
Language learning(I): Structure of the nominative absolute construction. T presents some sentences. Lead the Ss to find out the structure of the nominative absolute construction by themselves. Make sure the Ss can tell the differences between “to do”, “doing”, “having done” and “done”. T asks the Ss to summary the structure of the nominative absolute construction and write it down on their learning plan sheet. Ask one of the Ss to go to the blackboard to write down his/her answer and the other Ss check their answers with him/her. Correct the Ss’ mistakes if any. 先开门见山地给出独立主格结构的定义，让学生通过自读定义，来推断独立主格的构成。然后通过5个例句，边分析边解读，一步步提炼出独立主格结构的构成及各自的特点。在此过程中，教师起引导、补充、纠正的作用。尤其是要让学生了解在非谓语动词形式的选择上需要遵循的原则。 Step 3

这一环节以思考讨论的方式，让学生了解独立主格结构不同于其他语法结构的特别之处。 Step 4
Language learning(II): Function of the nominative absolute construction. Let the Ss match the four sentences to the functions to see if the Ss can tell the functions of the nominative absolute construction in each sentences. Then T asks one student to read out his/her answer and the whole class check if the answer is right. Correct the Ss’ mistakes if any.
本环节采用连线的方式，让学生了解独立主格结构在句子中可以充当的成分，并对号入座。因为学生英语程度不是特别好，因此连线练习可以降低难度，节约时间，为后面的写作环节留足时间。 Step 5
Language learning(III): the structure of “with” Exercise: Fill in the blanks. T uses this exercise to check if the Ss have get the hang of the nominative absolute construction. Give some more explanation if necessary.
本环节设计意图是要让学生知道with的独立主格结构，并通过填空练习巩固Step 2的学习内容。对学生产生的问题及时纠正，进一步检验学生对这一结构的掌握情况。层层铺垫，步步夯实，为后面的输出打好基础。 Step 6
Writing improvement: Complete the sentences using the nominative absolute construction. 本环节为利用独立主格结构提升写作的第一层练习。教师先展示一些学生平时进行写作时，尤其是读后续写

T shows some short sentences on the screen, and let Ss complete the sentences using the nominative absolute construction to make the description more vivid. Then check the answers and correct the Ss’ mistakes.
时常常会用到的一些句子，然后要求学生根据学案上的汉语提示，运用独立主格结构改写句子。使学生感受到独立主格结构可以达到使描写更为生动形象、使人物形象更丰满等的效果。
Step 7 Appreciation
Show some beautiful sentences with the nominative absolute construction. Ss read and consolidate the construction.
这一环节是写作的第二层训练，让学生欣赏教师从一些英文作品当中选取的包含独立主格结构的优美句子。让学生欣赏并模仿。教师对其中的一些生词给予解释，以让学生更好地理解句子。
Step 8 Group work: Watching and writing
Ss are asked to watch a short video taken from the film Pride and Prejudice. Ss watch carefully and write down two sentences to describe Darcy and Elizabeth. They should use the structure they have learned today. After that, they check their answers in group and choose the best sentence in their group. Each group write down their sentence on the blackboard to share with the whole class. Then Ss vote for the best sentence. 这一环节设计了在观看《傲慢与偏见》中的达西向伊丽莎白求婚的片段后进行描写。观看之前先向学生明确要求：认真观察视频中人物的动作、表情、神态等，然后利用所学的独立主格结构，每人写出两个句子。一个描写达西，一个描写伊丽莎白。之后进行小组内比对讨论，选出本小组内自认为最好的句子，派小组代表写在黑板上进行展示。教师予以点评，分析结构，及时纠错、反馈学习成果。观看视频，可以让学生从前面紧张的学习环节中稍事放松，形式也比直接的翻译练习更具吸引力和创造力。 Step 9 Assignment
1. Ss find the sentence including the nominative absolute construction from the using passage. Compare it with the one they wrote by themselves in class. 2.Write a short passage.
First translate the following sentences into English using the nominative absolute construction. Then connect the sentences into a short passage by adding some conjunctions.
第一个作业,让学生课下在using里找到运用独立主格描写达西的句子，并把这个句子和自己在课堂上所写的句子进行比较。
第二个作业，目的是巩固独立主格。让学生把下面四个句子用独立主格进行翻译，并加上适当的连词，连成一篇小短文。
