A walk through the jungle
At the end of this period, students will be able to:

As the saying goes like this,”tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I
learn”. So in order to involve students in the whole reading activity, several tasks are designed for them to take an active part in reading.
Besides, it’s also important to guide students to think independently and critically, so as to lay a good fundation for their life-long learning.
Step1. Lead-in 导入
Task 1: Guessing game
Try to describe the appearance or personality of one of their classmates and let the others
guess his or her name.
Students may take the following factors into consideration: height, figure, facial features, etc.
Step2. Reading and drawing
Task 2:
1. Take notes by drawing according to the passage and their imagination, using pictures to introduce new words as well as to arouse students’ train of thought.
2. Describe their drawings of the jungle with their classmates using the newly-learnt words. And display some of the works.
3. Understand the hidden meaning of each object and try to analyze their drawings like a psychologist.
Step3. Further discussion
Task 3: Escape from the jungle
Situation: there are only 6 people in this jungle, with one fire balloon as a useful tool to escape from this deserted island, which can hold only one person. And there’s neither water nor food. The six characters are as follows:

A woman who is 8-month pregnant

An inventor who is studying new energy

A doctor who has been developing a cure for AIDS

An astronaut who plans to fly to the Mars, trying to find a new place for humans to live on

An ecologist who knows rainforest very well
-
A wonderer (流浪汉)
Discuss in groups and try to decide which one can use the tool to escape from the island and list convincing reasons.
Step4. homework
Write down your solution and reasons for the above situation.
