Step 1  Warm-up and leading- in : dance and draw

Leading-in:
Play music and lead the Ss to dance together.
 
Ask the question:
“Do you like dancing? Do you like exercising? Exercising is good for our health. I like it, too.”
 
Begin the topic of hobbies.Then introduce the new phrases: clean the room and use the computer by acting them out. 
 
Next draw the pictures on the blackboard and finish teaching the following four phrases step by step.
“When I am free, I also like reading a newspaper. Look! I am reading a
newspaper…...”
With the help of dancing and drawing, the teacher can make the class active and let them  know about present progressive tense in the first person.
 
Step 2  Game: listen and guess

Give the Ss 30 seconds to memorize all the sentences in the first person.
 
Play a game: let the Ss listen and guess what the teacher is doing.
“You should answer me like this: Listen! You are doing …”
 
Review the sentences and lead the Ss to find the structure of present progressive tense on their own efforts.
By listening, arouse the Ss’ interest and set a situation to use the tense in the second person.
 
Help them find how to use present progressive tense by themselves.

Check the answer.
 
By changing the subjects, 
strengthen the usage of the sentence pattern and let the Ss know how to use present progressive tense correctly, especially the third  person.
 
Practice their speaking skills.
 
 
Step 4  When to use it: look and make a conversation

The first PPT:
Show the Ss three pictures and say what people are doing at 6 o’clock in the morning.
 
The second PPT:
Lead the Ss to say what they are doing and what the teacher is doing now.
 
The third PPT:
Ask the Ss where the parents are and let them answer the question using present progressive tense.
 
Enable the Ss make the conversations according to the pictures.
 
Show the Ss five sentences used previously and let the Ss draw a conclusion:
“Can you tell me what words you will hear when people say sb. be doing sth. Please pay attention to the blue words.”
The Ss summarize when to use present progressive tense.
 
Have a test to check the Ss whether they know when to use the tense. They need to tell the reason.
By making conversations, the Ss can learn more about present progressive tense.
 
By observing, the Ss summarize what they see and draw a conculsion about when to use present progressive tense.
 
Practice their speaking skills.
 
With the help of the test, they can tell the difference between present progressive tense and simple present tense.
 
 
Step 5  How to change it: review , draw a conclusion and have a word game

The Ss summarize the rules by themselves.
 
 
Play a word game and check if they remember the rules.
Check the words’ ing form.
The Ss learn how to change present progressive tense on their own and do some practice in games.

Show time!
Help the Ss summarize what they learnt in this class in their own words creatively.
 
Practice writing and speaking skills.
 
Give a stage of a talent show. Increase the Ss’ love for language.
